Pilates Essential Principles

  • CONCENTRATION - key element to connecting your mind and body. Concentrate every time you exercise, use the power of your mind.

  • CONTROL - Joseph Pilates' philosophy and basic foundation was the idea of muscle control by the mind. No sloppy movements propelled by momentum.

  • CENTERING - using the muscles between your rib cage and hips leads to a flatter stomach, better posture and back pain prevention.

  • BREATHING - improving blood circulation helps us to relax. You eventually learn how to coordinate a deep inhale and exhale with each movement.

  • FLUIDITY- emphasize grace of motion over speed and don't isolate movements.

  • PRECISION- focus on one precise and perfect movement instead of 10 sloppy ones

KETTLEBELLS-- www.proedgekettlebells.com

Looking to enhance muscle tone, build functional strength, increase lean body mass and rev up your metabolism? Cross-train with kettlebells! Want to round out your fitness routine with a strength-training regimen, but dislike lifting weights at a gym or health club? Give kettlebells a try! Instructor Gus Petersen is the owner of ProEdge Kettlebells and a longtime personal trainer at Cherry Creek Athletic Club. He will be offering monthly introductory workshops at Personal Pilates Plus beginning in December. Although relatively new to the U.S. fitness scene, kettlebell training has a rich history. This centuries-old Russian strength training system has been a mainstay of Russian Olympians and the Soviet Special Forces for many years. Over the past two decades, kettlebell training has gained traction in the United States, as military personnel, elite athletes and, most recently, Hollywood celebrities have discovered its outstanding strength, conditioning and flexibility benefits. With the focus on breathing, muscle tension and core activation, it's an excellent complement to Pilates training that delivers fast, tangible results: Exponential strength gains without excessive bulk, greater endurance, increased metabolism, healthy weight loss, greater flexibility, overall body conditioning, protection against sports injuries (and faster recovery) & enhanced sports performance. Gus will also be offering personal training and semi-private training in kettlebells through PilatesPlus.
